Designing the Pavilion of Poland for Expo 2020 Dubai is for architects what for athletes a performance at the Olympics crowned with a gold medal and a national anthem playing. It is a privilege to create both the exhibition design and the architecture project, and through them to share with the world a story about Poland, its resources, unique nature, Polish technical thought, sustainable coexistence with the environment. We wanted to highlight the theme of creativity, mobility, innovation, and the brilliance of Polish craftsmanship."
I hope that visiting the Poland Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will be an unforgettable, deep experience engaging all the senses. Our goal is to encourage a reflection on the role of the individuals in the world and allow everyone to see the wide range of influence of Polish products, ideas, goods and services.
Feel invited to visit Dubai and Poland Pavilion, to stop in the shade of its dynamic shape, to listen to the rustling wind, to surrender to the spell of the kinetic sculpture surrounding the building and symbolizing the migration of birds. It will be a unique experience!

In many aspects the motto "Creativity inspired by nature" is – by its nature – inspirational. After all, it is not only about artistic creativity, but it is also – in a broader sense – about a creative approach to the conservation of nature. Environmental problems and the climate crisis are vital issues both for people of my generation, and those younger. Poland’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai and our emphasis on the role that the natural environment plays is, for me, a glimpse into a future in which art, science and technology can work together for the well-being of nature.

For Expo 2020 Dubai, Zieta Studio designed a silver object and three copper forms – sculptural structures made especially for the „Polish Table”. On the one hand, they reflect our company’s DNA, which was developed through experiments with metal and volumetric expansion. On the other, they show the artistic and innovative aspect of working with metal.

It is very inspiring to be able to confront yourself and your work in a project involving creators of many industries and outstanding craftsmen. I can look inside the process of creating the Pavilion, get to know the views of other artists and, of course, be part of the team that is responsible for the best story about Poland. As a creator, I can say for sure – I have a passion for creation and commitment, because I have a chance to show my technique, style and work to many people. My performances at festivals outside of Europe usually focuse on the idea, that Polish culture and tradition have a universal message and they are able to delight people from around the world. I think that the simpler, the better. During the concert, it is enough to choose several elements wisely, and this universal message will be understood. The thing I can offer to the international audience during the presentation of my country at Expo 2020 Dubai is, above all, the unique character of my region – Podlaskie, where the influences of the Western and Eastern world meet. My music is based on traditional melodies that have extraordinary power. In the story about my region, I also add information about the cultural context of this part of the world. I am very happy that in my concert at Expo 2020 Dubai, I will be accompanied by DJ Sw@da, who, thanks to electronic sounds, will add more energy to the music I create. We will also play a piece that we composed especially for the Expo and it is inspired by the idea of Xylopolis. I had an honour to write lyrics to this song.

Interpreter of fragments of Polish poetry in the "Poland. Inspired by nature” zone of the Poland Pavilion
The invitation to interpret Polish poetry as part of the Expo 2020 project is a special honour for me. From the beginning, I liked the idea of presenting excerpts from the excellent poems to the visitors. The opportunity to read such diverse works and to bring the beauty of Polish poetry closer to people from all over the world seemed extremely important and interesting. I have not yet had the opportunity to deal with such diverse lyrical texts, and this project allowed me to interpret works by artists from absolutely different eras. Working in the studio was great fun with rhythm, interpretation and emotions. All the fragments in their themes focus on nature and this brought me even closer to the project as I feel the special bond with nature too. In addition, I had the opportunity to read a fragment of a poem by one of my beloved authors - Zuzanna Ginczanka. I hope to introduce visitors to the beauty and uniqueness of Polish poetry and that the poems I read take them to the world of extraordinary Polish nature.

The role of the Ambassador at Expo 2020 Dubai is a great honour and distinction for me, but it comes with responsibility and duty. Poland is a country of creative people who can create great things in every field. (...) Many inventions created by Polish scientists and inventors over the centuries accelerated the development of today's world. In culture and art, too, one cannot forget about great Poles: Fryderyk Chopin, Krzysztof Penderecki, Karol Szymanowski, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Artur Rubinstein, Tamara Łempicka, Igor Mitoraj, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Piotr Beczała, Wojciech Siudmak to mention a few.
Poland is also a beautiful country with a very diverse landscape, where everyone can find something for themselves.
The Lodz Voivodship that I am honoured to represent, is a region attractive in terms of tourism, nature and economy. Situated in the centre of Poland, it provides opportunities for the economic development of many areas, and above all, it becomes a logistics centre for Central Europe. You can find interesting places here, from castles and palaces such as Nieborów, manors and museums, such as the Art Museum in Łódź, to unique attractions such as the thermal spa in Uniejów or the ski facility in the centre of Poland Góra Kamieńsk on the slope of the Bełchatów mine. The capital of the region is the multicultural and modern city of Łódź, the city of four cultures, which is one of the largest academic centres, boasting the second-largest opera stage in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, the Grand Theater in Łódź. Here, modernity harmonizes with tradition, industry and nature."

We came to Dubai with the fashion show that is a surprising combination of beautiful tradition and modernity, with an extraordinary twist in the style of MMC Studio. In the collection, we used elements of Polish folklore, presented originally in a modern way. The show is the premiere of the spring-summer 2022 season collection.

Expo 2020 Dubai is a great opportunity to get to know different cultures and strengthen cultural and business contacts according to the motto “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Each project is a new challenge, and this was also the case here. First, I was thinking what is valuable in Poland, but also common, and the choice fell on nature. The illustration is an original analysis of well-known symbols combined with triangles, which at first glance may seem abstractly arranged shapes, but if we know the facade of the Poland Pavilion at Expo, we will find connections.

Participation in promoting Poland on the international arena, during the World Exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai, is a great honour for me, and at the same time great fun. Not every day I work on such interesting and cool projects, that I can initiate by myself. Certainly, the biggest challenge was the coordination of the entire process: the selection of artists, following creative brief, and at the same time include the guidelines of city halls, then a lot of challenges related to logistics and weather. Painting is in the end of the process – it's just a pleasure.

Due to their location and excellent transport infrastructure, the United Arab Emirates are one of the most important intermediaries in economic contacts with Europe – not only for the countries of the Middle East, but also Africa and South Asia; an area made up of 72 countries, inhabited by nearly 2.8 billion people. Expo 2020 creates a unique opportunity for our entrepreneurs to gain new partners from these huge markets. That is why we are working very intensively on what Poland is going to offer. Expo 2020 Dubai is to be a return to the original assumptions of world exhibitions. The exhibitions, which have been organized since 1751, were initially a forum for presenting scientific achievements, sharing knowledge and new technological possibilities. It is very important that one of the main goals of Poland’s presence at Expo 2020 Dubai is to build lasting relationships in the field of scientific cooperation. It is also gratifying that the exhibition’s motto, “Connecting minds, Creating the future”, clearly draws attention to scientific and technological achievements, especially those that look to the future. The best designs will be selected from among the students’ final designs and then will be carefully refined and adapted to the needs of the staff of the Poland Pavilion, taking into account the climatic conditions.

The Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz, appointed by His Magnificence the Rector to cooperate with the Expo 2020 Dubai Team, offers the possibility of an education in 26 undergraduate and graduate programs. Nearly 4.500 students have studied in our Faculty. We believe that our students studying Logistics, Finance and International Business, as well as International Economic Relations, will in a special way, make up the excellent staff of the Poland Pavilion during the World Expo in Dubai. The internships in the Poland Pavilion and, we very much hope, the involvement of our students in other events promoting Lodz, the Lodz Region and what Polish Science can offer, will contribute to getting to know each of them better as links in the organizational chain. The encounter with a number of challenges and daily duties accompanying the work placement in the Poland Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai will be an excellent school of life for them, given them the opportunity to acquire competences so necessary in business. We have no doubt that these competences will be to their advantage when, after graduating from university, they will be faced with the choice of what role they want to fill on the labour market and of which direction they wish to pursue. We are very pleased with the openness of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency as well as the professionalism and kindness of their Expo 2020 Dubai Team. The dynamic development of the United Arab Emirates has continued, without interruption, since the 1960s, achieving results that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. Dubai remains, primarily, a symbol of economic and civilisational change in this region of our globe. For this reason, its choice as the site of the Expo World Exhibition eloquently underlines the advances Dubai has made. You can see the scale of these changes by confronting the museum collections and architectural monuments there with the contemporary face of Dubai, which I experienced personally, four years ago. Dubai’s advancement is inspiring not only for the visiting representatives of various states and economic structure, but also for universities and it prompts one to draw conclusions. Hence, the involvement of representatives from our university; talented and ambitious young people, working for the positive image of Vistula University as well as their own. In the events which create the atmosphere of the Exhibition, there is clear evidence of the synergy between their ambitions and the plans of the university. There is also a multicultural synergy, which is emphatically reflected by Vistula University’s first place in terms of internationalisation among all universities in Poland. We educate students from 100 countries around the world and we want to show our unique qualities by contributing to the functioning of the Poland Pavilion. The Expo in Dubai will contribute to this goal enormously.

I consider representing Poland at the international exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai as a great honour for our university. It will also be a unique and extremely valuable experience that fits with the mission of the Vistula School of Hospitality. We focus on the best preparation of graduates for the needs of industries dealing with tourism, event organisation and culinary arts, promoting the idea of entrepreneurship, based on a system of co-operation with practitioners and the business environment.
Our students, who will serve at the Poland Pavilion in Dubai, will experience a fantastic lesson. They will feel how such events create a space for meetings, closeness and emotions; how experiences and memories are created, how magic is born, and relationships are established. They will also have the opportunity to look at the world through the prism of tourism, in particular, its sustainable development, which should take into account the green and digital directions of its transformation.
I hope that, during the world’s largest exhibition, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the future of the tourism sector, which needs to be made more resilient and sustainable, learning from the current crisis caused by the pandemic and anticipating new trends and consumer patterns. The role of the Polish Ambassador at Expo 2020 in Dubai is a great honor for me, but also responsibility and duty.
Poland is a country of creative people who can make great things in every field. Poland is also a beautiful tourist country with a very diverse landscape, where everyone will find something for themselves. There are places and things here that you have not seen anywhere and you will definitely not see.
The Lodzkie Region is attractive place for tourists and business representatives. Situated in the center of Poland, it provides opportunities for the development of many areas of the economy, and above all, it becomes a logistics center for Central Europe. Tourists can also find interesting places here, from castles and palaces such as Nieborów, manors and museums, such as the Art Museum in Łódź, to unique attractions such as the thermal spa in Uniejów or the ski facility in the center of Poland Góra Kamieńsk on the slope of the mine Belchatow. The capital of the region is the multicultural and modern city of Łódź, the city of four cultures, which is one of the largest academic centers, boasting the second largest opera stage in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, the Grand Theater in Łódź. Here, modernity harmonizes with tradition, industry with nature.

The dynamic development of civilization constantly presents us with new challenges. Ambitious development plans must be implemented so that they do not endanger human health and life, and do not degrade the natural environment of our planet. Thousands of decisions regarding urbanization, agriculture, the maritime economy and crisis management are today made on the basis of data from satellites. The ever-growing number of satellites and other objects in orbit, means that tools to observe them and prevent collisions are indispensable. Thanks to the achievements of Polish astronomy and the cooperation of institutions and companies in the space sector, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) is developing a unique network of observation telescopes located in different parts of the world, creating the National System of Situational Awareness in Outer Space, which monitors threats on an ongoing basis. The Agency also coordinates work on providing access to orbital Earth observation data and tools for its use by various sectors of the government administration and the economy. We also support scientific research and development of space technologies, striving to develop this industry into a strong branch of Poland’s economy. We would like to present Poland’s activities and achievements in these areas during Expo. We invite you to join POLSA during Space Week and to participate in our educational activities in the Polish Pavilion, where space will be an important element.

The Sejm (the lower house of the Polish Parliament) of the Republic of Poland declared 2021 as the year of Stanisław Lem. This outstanding writer formulated many visionary descriptions of the cosmos that were way ahead of their time. In his “Star Diaries”, for example, he describes the problem of cosmic debris: “In their technical phase, every civilization slowly begins to sink into debris. This causes enormous problems, until it leads to the dumping of the debris into space. In order to avoid it interfering too much with cosmonautics, the debris is placed in a specially isolated orbit. This is how a growing ring of space landfills is created, and its presence allows one to identify a higher era of progress. Cosmic themes in the writer’s work will be presented in many ways in the Polish Pavilion, including in projects with the participation of the Polish Space Agency.

All the activities of IOŚ-PIB are undertaken in view of wise and sustainable management of natural resources. We take a particularly close interest in the concept of Xylopolis – a city fuelled by nature. The main goal of this project is to promote the technological progress within the limits set by the natural environment. One of the tasks carried out under the project framework aims at showing that two ecosystems – urban and forest – can interpenetrate and act in harmony with each other. This approach is already promoted through Xylopolis educational and promotional campaign as well as it will be presented at Expo 2020, held this year in Dubai. We hope that the presentation of Xylopolis at the World Exhibition will be long remembered by visitors of Poland’s Pavilion, as well as that it will encourage many people to take a trip to Poland and business entities – to invest in environmentally friendly technologies.
